Membership

The Samuel Johnson Society of the West (SJSW) is open to all persons interested in conversation and discourse about the life and writings of Samuel Johnson, his circle, and the history and culture of his century. We welcome persons of diverse backgrounds, domestic or international, and invite you to join our society and participate in our activities.

All dues-paying members receive an invitation to the annual dinner meeting as well as periodic announcements on activities of interest. Annual dues are $50 per person.

Greg Clingham, Visiting Research Professor, Pennsylvania State University Humanities Institute, and Professor Emeritus Bucknell University, will present the twenty-ninth Daniel G. Blum Lecture at the annual meeting 24 November 2024.  Prof. Clingham is the author of Johnson, Writing and Memory and editor of The New Cambridge Companion to Samuel Johnson.  At Bucknell University, Prof. Clingham held the John P. Crozer Chair of English Literature and served as the director of Bucknell University Press.
